4 Camping Lunch Ideas for Kids

Hey party parrots!

Spring and fall are the seasons to go camping! The weather is looking good. Be sure to see the plants changing for the season. And we gotta mention the animals out and about! For a few months in autumn, I’ve been camping and eating around New Zealand. After all, you can’t explore without food! So check out this list of camping lunch ideas for kids.

Banana Bars

Bite off of these banana bars! Explorers, go find hidden wonders around your campsite with more energy.

Prep time: 15 minutes | Bake time: 30 minutes | Servings: 6 bars

Ingredients:

  • cup rolled oats
  • 1 ½ tablespoons dried cranberries
  • 1 tablespoon almonds, sliced
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 ½ tablespoons whole wheat flour
  • 1 small banana, mashed
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon honey

Materials:

  • Oven
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking tray
  • Mixing bowl
  • Mixing spoon
  • Knife

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Place parchment paper over the baking tray.
  3. Put the oats, cranberries, almonds, baking powder, and flour into the mixing bowl. Stir well.
  4. Put the banana, milk, egg, and honey into the bowl. Stir well.
  5. Pour everything from the bowl onto the baking tray. Make it even across the tray.
  6. Place the tray into the oven. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Slice into 6 bars.

Sunny Squash Chips

The sun is out! Celebrate with these squash chips that look like little suns!

Prep time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 45 minutes | Servings: 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 yellow zucchinis, sliced thin
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil

Materials:

  • Oven
  • Pot
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking tray

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 250°F.
  2. Stir the zucchini slices, salt, and avocado oil in a pot.
  3. Place parchment paper over a baking tray. Put all the slices onto the tray. Make sure there is enough empty space between slices.
  4. Place the tray into the oven. Bake for 45 minutes or until the slices become a little brown.

Maple-Baked Peanuts

Have some baked peanuts by the campfire. Mmm, mmm. It’s a warm feeling!

Prep time: 20 minutes | Bake time: 10 minutes | Servings: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup peanuts, unsalted and roasted
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Materials:

  • Oven
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking tray
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pot
  • Stovetop
  • Mixing spoon
  • Spoon

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. Place parchment paper over the baking tray.
  3. Put the peanuts into the mixing bowl.
  4. Put the maple syrup into the pot. Set the stovetop to medium heat. Cook the maple syrup until it melts.
  5. Put the melted maple syrup, sugar, and salt into the peanut bowl.
  6. Stir well until the mixture covers all the peanuts evenly.
  7. Place the peanuts onto the baking tray. Make sure to leave space between each peanut.
  8. Put the baking tray into the oven.
  9. Bake the peanuts for 5 minutes. Take out the tray. Flip over the peanuts with a spoon.
  10. Bake the peanuts for another 5 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.

Strawberry Jam Pastries

Got jam? Great! It can be used for these delicious pastries!

Prep time: 20 minutes | Freeze and bake time: 40 minutes | Servings: 20 pastries

Ingredients:

  • cup strawberry jam
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • ½ teaspoon orange peel, grated
  • ¼ cup almond flakes, grated
  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar

Materials:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Stirring spoon
  • Knife
  • Countertop or cutting board
  • Beeswax food wrap
  • Freezer
  • Oven
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking tray

Directions:

  1. Put the strawberry jam, vanilla bean paste, orange peel, and almonds into a mixing bowl. Stir well.
  2. Spread the mixture smoothly across the puff pastry sheet.
  3. Do this three times: Fold the sheet so that the ends touch in the center. After each fold, press the sheet down a little flatly.
  4. Spread the sugar over a countertop or cutting board. Roll the sheet into the sugar.
  5. Cover the roll with beeswax food wrap.
  6. Put the roll into the freezer. Wait 25 minutes to take it out, or until the roll gets a little firm.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  8. Place parchment paper over the baking tray.
  9. Take off the plastic wrap from the roll.
  10. Cut pieces from the roll. Each piece should be about a half-inch long.
  11. Put the pieces onto the baking tray. The cut side of the pieces should face up. Make sure to keep them 3 inches away from each other.
  12. Put the tray into the oven. Let it bake for 15 minutes, or until the pieces expand and turn golden yellow.
