Is it a rainy day? Or does it simply feel like an indoor day? You can have plenty of fun inside the house! Here are some fun games for kids inside.
Poetry Pile
Poetry doesn’t have to be hard. Let’s create and remix poems from book titles! There are so many creative possibilities with this easy indoor activity.
You will need: Books
Instructions:
At your home or library, gather lots of books together. Read the book titles on the spine. Then, stack the books with the spines facing you. You can create a poem by stacking the spines in an order!
Keep reordering the stack of books to remix different poems. Recite your poetry to an audience, like your family and friends. Then, ask them to make their own poetry stack. It’s fun seeing how many poetry piles can be made from books!
Item Frenzy
Test how much you know! Compete with your family and friends in this fun knowledge game.
You will need: Pen or pencil, timer
Instructions:
Set a timer for one minute. Before it rings, write as many items in a category as possible.
After the minute is over, score each player. Players are scored by amount and originality. Each item is worth one point. If it’s an item nobody else has, they get an extra point. See who can earn the highest score!
Here are categories inspired by Party Parrot World:
- Bird species (Examples: Kākāpō, pigeon, cardinal)
- Colors (Examples: lime green, black, dark blue)

Lead a Tour
You know your house best! Be a tour guide for your friend, doll, or action figure.
Instructions:
Walk through different rooms in your house. Explain each room and tell your guest how things work. In the kitchen? Tell your guest which family members use it. Also, show your guest how to get food (like a cereal bowl).
It’s cool sharing with others what makes your house so special.
Hide-and-Seek Reversed
You might have played hide-and-seek. But what about playing it in reverse? This is how to play it!
Instructions:
One person hides. Everyone else has to find the hider. When someone finds the hider, they’ll stay and hide with them. It becomes a whole group of people hiding! The last person to find the hiding group loses. In the next game, the loser will be the first to hide.
Good job finding your friends! Soon, you’ll be as stealthy as a ninja.
