Cherry Acorns

Squirrels aren’t the only ones collecting acorns. You can too! Craft these simple acorn snacks made from cherries and chocolate.

Prep time: 20 minutes | Fridge time: 10 minutes | Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ pounds cherries, rinsed and dried
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate

Materials:

  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Scissors
  • Refrigerator
  • Bowl
  • Stirring spoon
  • Microwave

Directions:

  1. Place parchment paper over a baking tray.
  2. Break small chocolate chunks into a bowl.
  3. Microwave the chocolate bowl for 30 seconds. Stir, then microwave for another 30 seconds. Repeat until the chocolate turns into a melt.
  4. Shorten the cherry stems by cutting off a section of the stem. These are the short acorn stems.
  5. Dunk the top of each cherry into the chocolate bowl. The chocolate should cover only a third of the cherry. The chocolate represents the brown cupule (acorn cap) of the cherry.
  6. After each cherry dunk, put the cherry onto the baking tray.
  7. Once the tray has enough cherries, put the tray into the fridge. Let it chill for 10 minutes or until the chocolate gets solid.
