Red Tomato Flowers

Prep time: 15 minutes | Cook time: 15 minutes | Servings: 12 muffins

Inspired by the beauty of spring, make your own tasty flowers!

Ingredients:

  • 12 thin slices of chicken breast
  • 12 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups cherry tomatoes

Materials:

  • Oven
  • 12-hole muffin tray

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Get your 12-hole muffin tray. Place slices of chicken breast into each hole. Push the slice down in the middle. Raise it along the hole’s sides.
  3. Crack the egg yolk into the middle of each slice. Be careful and try to keep the yolk intact.
  4. Place cherry tomatoes into each hole around the rim.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the chicken slices become a little brown.

Chick ‘n’ Crackers

They are cheese on crackers but with a special twist. Decorate these classic snacks as baby chicks! Happy hatchday!

Prep and cook time: 10 minutes | Servings: 4 cheese and crackers

Ingredients:

  • 4 round whole wheat crackers
  • 4 slices Colby-Jack cheese
  • 1 carrot
  • 8 olives, sliced
  • 4 eggs

Materials:

  • Knife
  • Rinsing water

Directions (for each cheese and cracker):

  1. Place a cracker on top of a cheese slice.
  2. Use a knife to cut the cheese around the cracker. Leave the cracker on top of the cheese.
  3. Cut one small triangle and two small circles out of the carrot. Place the triangle (beak) in the middle of the cheese. Place the two circles (feet) at the bottom of the cheese.
  4. Place 2 olive slices (eyes) above the triangle.
  5. Gently crack the yolk and egg white from the shells. You only need the shell. Try to keep the shell big and intact. Keep any broken pieces. Save the yolk and egg white for another recipe. (The Red Tomato Flowers recipe is great for this!)
  6. Rinse and clean the eggshell and pieces by running water through it.
  7. Place the eggshell next to the cracker. Scatter any broken pieces around the eggshell.

Frozen Berry Stars

Prep time: 15 minutes | Freeze time: 1 ½ hours | Servings: 4 frozen yogurt stars

The stars shine so brightly in the night sky. But you can also make your very own stars! They’re berry (very) fun to make.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup raspberries
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • ½ cup blackberries
  • 2 cups Greek yogurt

Materials:

  • Parchment paper
  • Small baking tray
  • Blender
  • Freezer
  • Star-shaped cookie cutters

Directions:

  1. Place parchment paper inside a small baking tray.
  2. Spread Greek yogurt evenly inside the tray.
  3. Blend all the berries. Then, smother the berry blend all over the yogurt. You can try a wavy pattern!
  4. Put the tray into the freezer for 1 ½ hours or until solid.
  5. Remove the tray from the freezer. Push star-shaped cookie cutters into the frozen yogurt. If the yogurt is too hard, let it thaw (5 minutes or so).
  6. Remove the cookie cutters and stars from the tray.

Bouquet of Veggie Flowers

It’s so beautiful to see flowers bloom in springtime! You can build your own flower bouquet using vegetables. You might even surprise your family by giving them this lovely bouquet.

Prep time: 10 minutes | Servings: 5 vegetable skewers

Ingredients:

  • 1 zucchini, sliced
  • 5 stalks green onions
  • 1 lettuce, leaves pulled out
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), cut into small circles
  • 5 flat fruit strips

Materials:

  • Flower vase
  • Small flower-shaped cookie cutter
  • 5 wooden skewers

Directions:

  1. Press the flower-shaped cookie cutter into 5 zucchini slices.
  2. For each skewer, start with lettuce leaves. Stick them through the skewer and place them in the middle.
  3. Stick a zucchini slice (flower petals) just below the skewer’s pointy end.
  4. Stick a bell pepper circle (center seed) on the skewer’s pointy end. This is just above the zucchini.
  5. Place the skewer inside the flower vase.
  6. Wrap a fruit strip (ribbon) around each skewer. Stick together the fruit strip’s ends.
  7. Repeat steps 2-6 until you’ve finished all 5 veggie flowers.
  8. Place all green onions (grass) in the vase, roots facing down.
